Judeo-Christianity

Do you believe in the God of the Bible? Do you believe in Jesus the Messiah? Do you believe in the Ten Commandments? If yes, then you are a Judeo-Christian. Does this mean that you are Jewish? NO! A Judeo-Christian is a Christian who lives by the Holy Scriptures of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the God of Moses and the Ten Commandments; the God who so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life; the God who sent us the Holy Spirit to empower us to live a Christian life. We are believers who believe in the one true living God, the Messiah, Jesus the King of the Jews and Israel, the Land given to God’s chosen people, the Jews. But though we live by and believe, we ourselves may not be Jewish.

Was Jesus a Judeo-Christian?

Jesus was Jewish. His Hebrew name is Yeshua; it means “Salvation.” Yeshua kept the Torah (the first five books of the Bible, otherwise known as the Law of Moses), the Sabbaths, and all of God’s Appointed Times (Leviticus 23). He dressed like His brethren and spoke their language, and the people who followed Him were all Jewish. Many people believe that Yeshua had no choice but to keep the Laws of Moses. We must remember that He is the Word made flesh. He is the living Torah. He encompasses the whole Hebrew Scriptures; for there was only the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings which we have come to call the Old Testament when Yeshua was born. The Apostolic Scriptures (the Scriptures that we call the gospels) were written about Yeshua, and the Scriptures we call the epistles were written about church history and how a believer should live out his faith. So would Yeshua approve of Judeo-Christianity? The answer would have to be yes! He was not only the Word of God, but He also kept the Word of God, and we who follow in His footsteps should also keep the whole Word of God.

We call ourselves Christians, so we ought to follow our Master. He, and only He, is our example; otherwise we should be called by another name. He never taught us to do anything other than what He himself did.

Church History

It was only centuries later that an Emperor named Constantine actually formed the religion we today call Christianity. He changed the names of the festivals, for example, from Passover to Easter (a pagan fertility goddess) and started the tradition of Christmas being on December 25th, which was the celebration of the birth of the sun god. He himself wanted to be called God, and so he used the term Holy Father. He began the practices of what we see today in our worship. Constantine was a pagan who made the whole Roman Empire worship Jesus (Yeshua’s Greek name) because his mother became a Christian, but with that, all kinds of practices entered into our beliefs and worship. We need to come back to the truth of the Word of God and follow Yeshua.

So What is the Judeo-Christian Message?

The Bible tells us in Romans 11:17 that branches were broken off, speaking of the Jewish people, so that we could be grafted into them; but verse 18 tells us that we should not be arrogant because we do not support the root, but the root supports us. In other words, the Christians have not replaced Israel or the Jewish people. You see, Romans 9:4 tells us that it is the Jewish people to whom belongs the adoption as sons, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the Law (Word), the worship service, and the promises. The Hebrew Scriptures that we call “old” are actually the foundation of our faith. “Yeshua, the Word of God, was God and He was with God from the beginning, and all things came into being by Him and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being” (John 1:1-3). Because Yeshua was the spoken word of creation, then you see, the Torah, the Word of God, was from the beginning. It is our foundation, and we can not build upon another except that which is the true foundation: Yeshua our Messiah (1 Corinthians 3:11). Today if you are a believing Christian you must ask yourself, “Do I wish to follow the master, my Savior, or do I wish to continue in a man-made religion?” It is easier to walk in the traditions of men than to break away and do what is right, but what would Yeshua have you do? I say that He would tell you, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
